Does prayer really change a business?

We can't promise what God will do. Here is what he has done, in our clients' own words.

We don't only pray for you. We cheer for you.

When people ask whether prayer coverage "works," I never quite know how to answer, because we can't guarantee outcomes. But I can report what our clients say.

The most common thing we hear isn't about money at all. It's that someone has their back, maybe for the first time.

"I want change, and I want it now"

A month after Shane, who ran an insurance agency, partnered with us, we asked why he hired us. Mild-mannered Shane pounded his fist on the table: "I want change, and I want it now."

That conversation was on 3/11. On 6/22, that starting date doubled, they closed the biggest account in the agency's history.

And that wasn't all. In the same three months a new house dropped into their lap, and they bought a second office. This was 2021, a year of upheaval for almost everyone.

"That list I'd made, some of them dreams I'd had for ten years with no movement, God used it like a checklist. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. And then he gave even more."

The Holy Spirit as the HR department

Gary and Camille own a farm. Before they came to us, they'd paid an HR manager a nice salary for a year or two. Every month she delivered tidy reports, and every month nothing actually changed.

Finally Camille turned to Gary: "Should we invite the Holy Spirit to be our HR department?"

Within two months of hiring us, they'd promoted someone from inside to farm manager. He was so good in the role that whole categories of problems simply vanished.

"There is such a glory on the farm."

"I don't feel alone anymore"

Chris came to us in December of 2020. By his own account, he had hated God most of his life, but was willing to explore what it might look like not to.

The first thing he asked for was a revenue explosion. He didn't get it. What he got, he says, was what he actually needed.

"I prayed for focus, and I feel 500% more focused. I prayed for family peace, and I'm patient now with things that used to drive me up the wall.

But the biggest one? I don't feel alone anymore. That aloneness goes back as far as I can remember. And now I feel like I'm never, ever alone. That's just mind-blowing."

"You don't have to convince me"

The first time I talked with Denise, whose husband runs a CPA firm, she cut me off. "You don't have to convince me. I'm already sold."

"That's not normal," I told her. "Most people at least have questions. Tell me more."

"I know firsthand the power of prayer. You're offering fruitfulness to others, and we get to take part in that. I cherish the thought of my family being prayed over, and our business being prayed over."

"Worth every penny"

Paul has been with us since the beginning. He put it in the language of business:

"Businesses spend money on a good marketing agency because they understand the power of marketing in sales. If you understand the power of prayer, a Workplace Prayer team inside your company is worth every penny."

In their own words

Shorter notes, sent unprompted — the kind of thing clients write when something has quietly shifted.

"All the difficulty I had felt praying over the store was simply gone, and I was able to enter back into intercession with the confidence of authority. I have felt that kind of shift before, but usually through my own efforts and zeal in prayer, or fasting. But this time, the shift happened to me."

Chad Salecker

"Really since joining, it has been the most joyous and wonderful beginning in years, and a constant fount of blessing. Probably the biggest breakthrough happened for my husband personally in 15 years."

Amanda Kowal

"Your ministry has really touched a part of my soul that has been in hibernation for a very long time. Decades.

Your friendship has been a light in a dark and long tunnel."

John Fox

"I'm so grateful for these calls! So uplifting, and just lovely to be with others who love Jesus."

Tara

"I continue to be so encouraged by your ministry. I am more grateful than ever that I get to be one of your clients."

Cortney Matz

"I was talking to someone I know, and they said, 'Something about you is different.' The sense of peace that has come to the work is quite evident."

Marty

"These morning prayer times are amazing! I have been so very blessed by everyone!"

What about the numbers?

We can't promise a financial return, and we say so plainly. But we've watched, in aggregate, prayer produce real results. For one of our first clients I prayed for a hundredfold return on every dollar he invested. A year later he told me it landed closer to 142 times.

And return isn't only increase. Sometimes it's the loss that didn't happen: the supply chain that held, the inventory that was enough, the deliveries that arrived on time and undamaged in a year the whole industry struggled.

One caveat

Not everything that surfaces feels good at first. Sometimes prayer brings a hidden thing to light: a partner's plans for a hostile takeover, an unpleasant diagnosis, a hard truth about the work. That's not fun. But it is a gift when what was hidden comes into the open.

And whether the news is good or hard, we cover it in prayer.

Where all of this began

None of this started with a business plan. It started with my parents.

In 1990, John and Sarita Holzmann founded a homeschool company, Sonlight, and from the first day they offered their staff paid, on-the-clock prayer: for the customers, the vendors, the work. When the company turned thirty, the family sat down to count God's goodness. They hoped to gather thirty stories. The list passed sixty and kept going.

Across roughly 600 employees over thirty years, they can recall a single commuting accident (she walked away unhurt and came to work the next day) and a single divorce. During the 1997 UPS strike that could have sunk the company, they realized they'd accepted a free FedEx mailer months earlier, which meant they already had an account the week no carrier was taking new customers.

That's the pattern I gave my life to. God is not opposed to prayer in business. He blesses the companies that value it.

Celebrating what God does, together.
